Fly Fishing On The Yellowstone River
"The Yellowstone river is a magnificent fly fishing experience..." --Brendan Williams

Montana Fly Fishing - April 28, 2008 Jeanne McCormick on the Yellowstone
River
THE
RANCH STRETCH - our home water
The variety of unique characteristics of this incredible Blue Ribbon water will entice all to experience it's rewards. For even the beginner fly fisher this river provides a welcome invitation due to it's ease of access and wade fishing along with abundant insect hatches and low fishing pressure. Unlike many of Montana's waters, Paradise Valley's Yellowstone river affords a true taste of wide open spaces.
While wetting a line on these hallowed waters it is not ucommon to find oneself faced with a conundrum of splendor. Imagine yourself sharing the fishing with only Eagles and Ospreys, the shorelines with Elk, Deer, Anterlope and other Montana wildlife. Many fly fishers seek the colorful native Cut Throat not only for their pure beauty but also for it's aggressive top water feeding habits. In addition, healthy populations of silver-chromed wild rainbows and predatory big brown trout will help to round out any day.
Regardless of your style of fishing, there is a fish in this river for you. The guide staff at Dome Mountain Ranch live right on this river's banks. Long drives and crowded waters will not be a part of your day. Instead, you will likely be on the water before finishing your last cup of coffee and often watch many an unforgettable sunset in a storm like Caddis hatch which can turn glassy tailing pools into boiling troughs of adventure.
The one thing that makes a Montana Fly Fishing vacation at Dome Mountain special is the incredible access to such a great stretch of water. Many guests string up at rod at arrival and seldom have to break it down until that sad day comes when they must depart.

Dome
Mountain Ranch Trophy Lakes
"Those fish aren't just big... They are HUGE."-- Frank Gauthier, AZ

Nestled within the awe-inspiring panoramic Beartooth mountains is "Vanessa's Lake" which recently attained national media attention on the Travel Channel and has been featured on the cover of Outdoor Like and Fly Fisher magazines. This spring fed alpine lake is heavily inhabited with a unique strain of rainbow trout coveted for their unmatched aggressive feeding and fighting abilities. Many fish top the scales at eight pounds or more and will burn a fly reel right down to the backing in seconds. Spending a day on this lake can well be a memory of relaxation and smiles branded into the soul of even the most travelled fly fisher.
